Jake Paul Anthony Joshua

Intro

Will Jake Paul ever stop? Having earned an approximate $110 million [1], perhaps he doesn't have to. With a fighting career of nearly 10 years, the majority of which has been spent alongside the biggest personalities in the celebrity and entertainment space, Jake's next challenger is two-time heavyweight champion Anthony 'AJ' Joshua.

Event Timeline

To help get rid of any questions regarding the random pairing of a real heavyweight versus one who is posing in the weight class, here's a brief timeline:

  • September 21, 2024: Anthony Joshua is defeated by Daniel Dubois via knockout, his fourth professional loss.

  • November 2024: Jake Paul goes the distance with Mike Tyson and wins by unanimous decision in a highly controversial fight.

  • June 2025: Anthony Joshua undergoes elbow surgery.

  • June 2025: Jake Paul defeats Julio César Chávez Jr.

  • November 3, 2025: Paul's planned exhibition bout against Gervonta Davis is cancelled after a lawsuit is filed against Davis.

  • Mid-November 2025: Discussions begin for a potential fight between Paul and Joshua. Jake Paul's promotion, Most Valuable Promotions, came to terms with Joshua's team shortly after the Davis fight cancellation.

  • November 17, 2025: The fight is officially announced by Netflix and the two sides.

  • November 21, 2025: The first official press conference and face-off between Jake Paul and Anthony Joshua takes place.

Jake Paul Anthony Joshua Netflix MVP

December 19th

The fight will be taking place on Friday, December 19, 2025, at the Miami Heat arena, the Kaseya Centre in Miami, Florida. It'll be an 8-round heavyweight fight with 10-oz gloves (i.e. capable of greater damage). Promoter Eddie Earn added in an interview with SkySports that this fight will be far from an exhibition, but emphasised, 'We're not interested in exhibitions. It's a real fight.

With Anthony Joshua's overall strong career, such bouts speak volumes about the duration left for him to be at his top form, being able to still contend for heavyweight champion bouts. The boxing-verse has all possible routes ending with a sweeping defeat given to Paul by AJ.

Various boxing stars have given their comments regarding the fight between the two personalities, stating:

"AJ was a great champion when he was champion. And if he is serious about boxing and serious about still being involved in the sport at a top level, that fight doesn't make any sense at all," Joseph Parker, former WBO heavyweight champion. Sky Sports Interview.

'If that fight happens, somebody better go to jail. AJ is going to kill him; it's unfair. Someone has to go to jail,' Derek Chisora, former WBO and WBC heavyweight title challenger, SecondsOut Interview.

'If I can beat Jake Paul, then what is 'AJ' going to do to Jake Paul?' Tommy Fury, British professional boxer, The Stomping Ground Interview.

Parker and Fury are the two who have faced the challengers, and although Parker almost brought a defeat, Fury defeated Paul in a split decision victory following much back and forth from the Paul brothers and the Fury men.

Fight Facts

At first sight, the fight appears to be total ridiculousness, boxing fans remember the heavily memed uppercut of Vladimir Klitschko and Jake Paul was recorded to be 13 pounds (for Tyson vs Paul in 2024 at 227 pounds[2]) lighter than Klitschko was in that infamous back on on April 29, 2017. Let alone being more than 20 pounds lighter [3] than Joshua was in his loss to Dubois back in September 2024.

The view is more divided than the 2012 Timothy Bradley vs Manny Pacquiao Decision upset for the WBO welterweight championship. Joshua may end up not taking this fight seriously just as Pacquiao did, but this is still looking to be in AJ's favour.

We're now 3 weeks away, viewership and payouts are looking big! According to SalaryLeaks, Anthony Joshua is reported to receive a guaranteed payout of $50 million, and Jake Paul is to receive a guaranteed payout of $50 million plus a share of Most Valuable Promotions' revenue from the Netflix deal.

Wrap-Up

The fight is expected to generate around $150 million in total revenue. With this amount of money at stake, it's a good money move on both sides, but this bout will end up either being in the win-loss column for either fighter and can be viewed as a distraction from going for coveted belts and championships.
